Today, in the Northern Hemisphere, it is the first day of winter, the longest night of the year, the shortest day. The seasons speak to us about life. There are periods of light and dark. Each is called to the light. Yet, many are living in darkness. Our Lady tells us:

March 14, 1985

“Dear children, in your life you have all experienced light and darkness. God grants to every person to recognize good and evil. I am calling you to the light, which you should carry to all the people who are in darkness. People who are in darkness daily come into your homes. Dear children, give them the light! Thank you for having responded to my call.”

The home of the founder of Caritas and his wife

The home of the founder of Caritas and his wife, lit up at dusk, with the reflection of the home in the lake. Many prayers, many blessings and Consecrations were prayed and offered here before Our Lady first came through Marija in 1988. Their “house was in order” and provided a place that Our Lady could come and implement a plan. Since 1988, over 100,000 people have visited the Bedroom of Apparitions here in the home and received graces, blessings, and conversion. Through Our Lady of Medjugorje’s apparitions here, the home has become a beacon of light for families throughout the world, in which many have said that just the knowledge that it exists gives them hope for their family. Do our lives give others hope?

What is darkness but the absence of light? A Friend of Medjugorje tells more that helps us to recognize what we see in the world around us:

“…How is it that the same darkness we see today in general society was not able to cast its darkness over the light of Christians of bygone days? And yet today, the Christian light is overshadowed by darkness. By their very nature, when Christian principles are lived, it is an impossibility for the light of Christ not to shine and overpower darkness. A contradiction then exists because if we are truly light, we would be lighting up the darkness. So the truth is that the prevailing darkness is a testimony against US, not against darkness… We, therefore, must put our own house in order and be active and ready to seize the moment that God gives us to take back America and place it back on the foundation of our Fathers’ dreams, our Fathers who first gave us this ‘homeland’…” 1

Our nation, our homeland, will be in order when our lives and homes are in order. As we look to the New Year with hope, remember that our hope is God, and that Our Lady is expecting us to be light. Darkness will not go away, will not diminish until there is more light, until we are more light. This Christmas, ask of Our Lady to bring to you and to your home the Light of the World, that the darkness in your life and home may be dispelled by It’s Brilliance.
