When the Blessed Mother began appearing in 1981, while other children their age were out playing, Jelena Vasilj was praying to Our Lady. Jelena is not one of the original six visionaries, but was to receive a different gift from Our Lady.

Jelena grew up in a very devout family. Her father had built a family chapel in their home even before the apparitions began, and gathered his family together for prayer that he led on a daily basis. Jakov Colo, the youngest of the visionaries was just a year older than Jelena, and attended the same school. The experience of the apparitions profoundly impacted, not only Jelena, but also her entire family. They did their best, as a family, to respond to the requests Our Lady was making through the visionaries.

Jelena is not one of the original six visionaries but saw and  heard Our Lady in an interior way.

At just ten years old in December of 1982, Jelena began to hear Our Lady’s voice and see Her in an interior way, which she describes as “intense presence of Mary… an experience of the heart,” 2 or as seeing the Blessed Mother with “the eyes of the heart.” 3 These experiences are called “interior locutions.” Several months later in March of 1983, Jelena’s friend Marijana Vasilj (the two are friends but are not related) began to see Our Lady interiorly as well. Both girls hear Our Lady’s voice and see Her in two dimensions.

Jelena once asked Our Lady if she could know the ten secrets. Our Lady replied to her with these words:
 

“I do not appear to you as to the other six because my plan is different. To them I entrusted messages and secrets. Forgive me if I cannot tell you the secrets which I have entrusted to them. This is a grace which is for them, but not for you. I appeared to you for the purpose of helping you to progress in spiritual life and through your intermediary I want to lead people to holiness.” December 29, 1982

Our Lady soon asked the two girls to bring together other young people within the parish who would respond to her invitation to join in a prayer group that Our Lady would lead through Jelena and Marijana.*

Marijana, in the early years of the apparitions. She saw Our Lady interiorly for the first time on March 19, 1983, but didn't hear Her voice until October 5, 1983.

Jelena and Marijana’s messages are different from the messages of the other visionaries as they specifically relate to the teachings and guidance of this group who committed themselves to living intensely the messages of Our lady and to be used by Her for Her purposes. As both girls were young, the prayer group stayed together for many years, being assisted by Fr. Tomislav Vlasic and Fr. Slavko Barbaric. Eventually, after graduating from secondary school, Jelena came to the United States to attend Steubenville University, and later a University in Rome, while Marijana married and settled in a village near Medjugorje. Their interior locutions began to diminish until they eventually stopped altogether.

The messages of Our Lady through Jelena continue to give support and guidance to people around the world who seek to understand from Our Lady how to live a profound spiritual life. Among the most powerful words given by Our Lady to Jelena are the consecrations to the Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary given on November 28, 1983. Jelena is a beautiful, graceful and articulate woman with a deep desire to continue to live and share all the spiritual treasures Our Lady opened up to her in her life. For years she had abandoned her future into God’s hands, and prayed to know His will in regards to her future vocation, keeping herself open to wherever God would lead her. She was always very open and honest with pilgrims who questioned her about this process, a process that can be painful at times. Jelena married in 2002 and has four children. Jelena is the more visible of the two interior locutionists, as she at times gives talks to pilgrims and gives interviews in which she tells of her encounters with Our Lady and shares the wisdom that Our Lady has imparted to her about personal holiness. Marijana, on the other hand, remains somewhat private, but she can still be seen from time to time talking to pilgrims, filling in, in a sense, when the six main visionaries are not available to speak to pilgrims.

Both women have carried Our Lady’s lessons in holiness from the beginning days when they were young, single, and free from the obligations of married life into the realms of wifehood and motherhood. This spiritual direction received in their youth is instrumental in helping them to live the fullness of their vocations now. It is amazing to see the wisdom and growth in those to whom Our Lady has appeared. Jelena’s more recent interviews reflect a deep and mature spirituality that is evident in her words. She relayed in an interview in 2005,
 

“I would say that prayer must dilate the heart; and that often the heart is instead closed. Love is missing. The wine is missing, like at Cana. Gradually, one tires along the journey. We have to trust Our Lady; believe that She told us the truth; and we shouldn’t doubt, or lose our faith. I see that often people feel isolated, as if deciding for God meant withdrawal. Instead, when you decide for God, you enter into the heart of the world.” 4

“Assemble about twenty young people who are ready to follow Jesus without reservation. Bring them together within a month’s notice. I will initiate them into the spiritual life. There can even be more than twenty. Even some adults and children can participate, all those who will accept the rule.

“I will ask these people to do penance for certain intentions. They will fast and pray for the Bishop. They will give up what they cherish the most: drink, coffee, pleasures, television. It is necessary to have persons who wish to consecrate themselves to religious life. Others have to be ready to consecrate themselves specially to prayer and fasting. I will give them rules to follow.

Hi! I was so glad today that I got your emergency donation email. I do not have a credit card, but I use the prepaid gift visa cards and many times I have a few dollars left in them that I cannot use anywhere, and today, I found that I donated all the left-overs in these cards which would have totaled to over $10.00 easily that have been sitting there for months! Every little bit helps and so it also helped me to rid me of these cards and in turn helping you... I know you got the money! Perhaps if you let others know that they can clean out those gift prepaid cards this way, more can help keep this beautiful site to our Mother going! Last year mej.com was forced to go offline because of lack of funding. One individual wrote:

Dear Caritas,
Please don’t take mej.com away.
 

We wrote back saying it was not our intent to do so. We were willing to do everything we could for Our Lady and Medjugorje to keep mej.com online. However, while the work, the operation of Caritas, and the commitment rested upon our shoulders, we could do nothing without funding to keep it going. Mej.com, therefore, went offline. For 16 days we truly did not know if it would come back. It was out of our power to keep mej.com running, because its future rested on the shoulders of the users of mej.com to respond by funding our efforts in running mej.com. Learning from Our Lady’s messages, we, at Caritas, do not know how to do a task only halfway. We work for Our Lady and we give our all. Mej.com could not continue limping along, nor could we continue to do what Our Lady was calling us to do without proper funding and a budget. Though we had little funding, we did have a loyal following, such as the following letter illustrates:
 

February 27, 2009

Dear Caritas,

I live in what has become a pagan land Ireland. I always download the podcasts and listen while I’m driving. I totally believe that the Holy Spirit is using mej.com to speak to us in a way that none of our priests are prepared to. It was with great pleasure that I signed up for the monthly donation. I’m self-employed and I have not been getting the amount of work I need so money is very tight, but I will continue to support mej.com, as the spiritual food I receive from your site is as important as the food I need for me and my family.
I will continue to donate additional amounts when I can, and I would ask that you always have a reminder to us users of mej.com to donate. May Our Holy Blessed Mother continue to lead us all to Her Son.

For 60 days previous to mej.com being forced to go offline, we had repeatedly appealed and requested donations with little response. Everyone was assuming that mej.com would be there without their help. Most everyone assumed everyone else was donating. They were not, and mej.com was suddenly gone. We needed to raise funds for a one year budget to implement plans for a system and an infrastructure that was capable of a massive outreach, available to the whole world, for the purpose of propagating and spreading Our Lady’s messages.

Our Lady said:

May 8, 1986

"Dear children, you are the ones responsible for the messages…you are the vessels which transport the gifts… I am calling you to do your job with responsibility. Each one shall be responsible according to his own ability. Dear children, I am calling you to give the gifts to others with love, and not to keep them for yourselves…”


Medjugorje’s call is the Third Luminous Mystery: “The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God” and “The Call to Conversion.” It is Our Lady who repeatedly puts out the call:

“…I call you to conversion…”


After being offline, many began to donate and pray. They also began to contact others and the word spread quickly. We made a commitment to come back online when at least 2,100 people committed 14¢ per day, which was just over ½ the budget needed to continue to keep our nose above water.


The total needed was 4000 people to commit to 14¢ per day to make mej.com what it is now. Four thousand people, committed for a year, would give us the budget of $208,000. The 4000 would make up a special core group of people who form the support base to supply mej.com to the population of the world, free. We were able to come back online sixteen days later on March 11, 2009 when we reached 2100 people who committed with their donations. We still had 1900 more people to reach the 4000 people goal necessary for an annual budget. By mid-March, 4000 people responded and the budget of $208,000 was reached. There were not actually 4000 people, as many donated over 14¢ per day, such as the person who wrote the following letter. This one person covered for four people per day.

With mej.com successfully back online, and now with a budget, plans and projects took shape and a very aggressive schedule was planned for June 1, 2009. Mej.com became a redirect for the brand new Medjugorje.com, a domain name the core group members helped acquire. It was a whole new site, prayerfully and thoughtfully planned for years. It quickly moved in ranking from page 6 to the first page on Google. Through God’s grace, Medjugorje.com began to feed Medjugorje to its users in a way not yet achieved in the Medjugorje Movement. Medjugorje.com also changed the Medjugorje presence on the worldwide web – a positive for everyone in bringing many Medjugorje websites to a higher quality and standard. This brings more credibility to the worldwide Medjugorje Movement and is a benefit for all, especially as the time of the Secrets approach. Our Lady asked us to be a witness to attract others to conversion. So we see the same, that how we spread Our Lady’s messages is a witness and has helped others spread Her messages. It lifts the whole Medjugorje Movement up, just as each of our personal witnesses lifts others up. Love for Our Lady and others drives this force.

For those who contributed last year. Thank you! Thank you for accepting an invitation to be part of a special group who is building and supplying Medjugorje.com to millions in the future.
 

We now are faced with this year’s budget goals. Presently seven Community members are holed up fulltime, working fifteen hours a day, six days a week, without distractions or interruptions in an isolated place. They will be working and planning this year’s projects and goals for 2010-2011. So we ask you if Medjugorje.com is worthy of your support and prayers, to please be one of 4000 core group members for 14¢ a day who will provide Medjugorje.com to millions in the future – free. Therefore, we ask you to judge us.

“I have only recently discovered your amazing Medjugorje website. This is such a wonderful blessing for me because I have now been reawakened from my long dark slumber concerning Our Lady’s call from this blessed place. Even though I had been to Medjugorje many years ago, I had lost my love and zeal for what was happening there, with recent negativity towards the authenticity of the supernatural origins of the apparitions. I was even beginning to doubt myself. But, thank God, this is no more!

14¢ per day is a dollar a week obligation. It is a small amount to help change the world. Save mej.com and save souls, by God’s grace, who through mej.com are being introduced everyday to Our Lady’s plans to save the world. Millions of people pay for a membership card for the ‘privilege’ to shop at Sam’s or Costco’s Wholesale Club. The hope for you to keep mej.com alive for 14¢ a day or $1.00 a week should not be looked at as a burden, but a ‘privilege’ to help Our Lady fulfill God’s desires “…to convert the entire world…” 06-25-07 Thank you.
 

Your donation will build something Medjugorje.com does not have, nor the Medjugorje Movement. You cannot image what is being planned. We are very excited where Our Lady is leading us. We are looking, peering into the future, anticipating what tools and capabilities we will need to continue to develop into a special powerful force that will spread Medjugorje throughout the world. We are prayerfully studying how we will handle the great moment of evangelization once the release of the secrets take place. We are looking how we will integrate:

• The printing presses of the Tabernacle of Our Lady’s Messages
• Caritas’ operations at the Mother House in Alabama and our Mission outpost in Medjugorje
• The Community of Caritas
• Our Lady’s way of life
• You the people

We will integrate all of these elements in a harmonizing effort to build a powerful force to spread Our Lady’s messages for a new world being born into a new way of life, a new springtime for the Church. You can be…will be used for a glorious movement in history, as the following letters show:
