What Happened on December 12, 1999

Our Lady appeared to Marija around 5:45 p.m. in the Field among thousands of pilgrims. The following is Marija’s description of this apparition.

“At the moment of the apparition, when Our Lady appeared, She immediately began praying over us and She prayed for a long time. Then I recommended to Our Lady each and every one of you and all your intentions and in a special way the sick and all our loved ones who aren’t here with us. I asked Our Lady to bless us and all the objects we carry with us. Our Lady made the sign of the Cross and She blessed all of us.”

Our Lady told Marija that She would appear the following morning at 8:00 a.m. for a private apparition with the community.

The Bedroom of Apparitions

This beautiful scene greeted each pilgrim as they walked through the Bedroom door. The expression, “if these walls could speak” is very much befitting of this room that has received Our Lady on so many occasions.

the line of pilgrims to the Bedroom of Apparitions

The line of pilgrims weave through the wooded path leading to the house to pray in the Bedroom of Apparitions. Community members are placed at different locations to share story after story of the beautiful events that have taken place with Our Lady and our founder’s family in this home. So much hope is offered of what Our Lady would like to do in every family through the witness of this one family. It was not uncommon to see tears well up in people’s eyes as they listened to the stories.

Saluting the Flag

Rocky, a good friend of the community, salutes the flag that lays at Our Lady’s feet during the recitation of the Patriotic Rosary on December 12, 1999. It was Our Lady, who chose to appear in the Field for the first time of Thanksgiving Day, 1988, who by Her actions began calling our nation back to its beginnings. To remember and reflect upon that our nation was founded upon the principles of Jesus Christ. The Patriotic Rosary is a beautiful prayer that enables one to do that while praying to God and Our Lady for our nation to receive the grace to repent and return to Him.

The Bedroom of Apparitions

At the completion of the Five Days of Prayer in 1999, this statue was returned to the Tabernacle of Our Lady’s Messages, but we were touched to capture beautiful images of it with our nation’s flag during its brief stay in the Field. The community has a favorite song that captures the desire to hold onto the beautiful but fleeting events of life of another time, entitled, “You Should Have Seen It in Color.” In Our Lady’s visit of December 1999, everything was “in color”. In other words, Our Lady’s joy, Her amusing teasing in saying “same time, same place” each day, Her daily messages, the angels appearing on the night of Christmas in the Field, and so many other graces “lit up” the normal “black and white” of our daily lives. As we would discover in later visits of Our Lady, every visit is different—and this visit of December 8-12, 1999, in particular, was pure sweetness.
