Our Lady of Medjugorje said on April 13, 1990:

“…You know, dear children, that when my Son was dying I was alone with Him with just some other women, and so I am happy to see you here tonight in such large numbers…”

To be near Our Lady, means to be near the Cross. This is an inescapable fact.

The Cross at Caritas

The Cross on Penitentiary Mountain at Caritas of Birmingham. This Cross was not symbolic. This Cross was lived, over 20 years in the making, built and dedicated for the Soul of America, consecrated to the Cross, through Our Lady. See, For the Soul of America for the story of how a Friend of Medjugorje built the Cross for the Soul of America.

To be near Our Lady means to be near the Cross. This is an inescapable fact. We therefore must look to the Cross. But why? A Friend of Medjugorje writes why the Cross itself is important:

“…Some innocently with good and pure intentions prefer to look only towards the resurrection; but there cannot be a resurrection without a passion. We have hope for our resurrection because of Jesus’ Resurrection; but only seeing His Resurrection without His Passion can cause much unhappiness. One might think: “Look at Jesus, all gloriously resurrected and here I am suffering, lonely, depressed.” The reality is that this world is full of suffering and to think we should be happy all the time and never suffer is the thing which will rob us of joy and true happiness. Who can identify with resurrection when in deep hurt or trials? When in this state, if we go instead before the real suffering Jesus, eye to eye, seeing Him hanging on His cross, we can receive healing and have our burdens eased…”1

Today, Christians everywhere place ourselves in Christ’s passion, remembering the cost of our sins and the daily cross which each must carry. We find consolation in the Cross of Jesus, knowing that He suffered for our sake and we do not suffer alone. Our Lady, just as She was on Good Friday is at the foot of our Cross. Each of you were remembered as the Caritas Community climbed to the Cross on Penitentiary Mountain today.

The Cross at Caritas April 19, 2019

A little rain did not stop a Friend of Medjugorje and the Caritas Community from climbing the Cross today on Good Friday. When we finished the Stations of the Cross and Divine Mercy Novena, we stayed to meditate on this day and Our Lady’s messages. The rain came to us in a heavy driving mist, with wind gusts of 25-30 mph. We continued to stay, offering all of your intentions and the special intentions of the Community.
