As the world awaits Pope Francis’ upcoming Consecration of the World to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, taking place in Rome on October 13, we look back at another Consecration that took place today, 13 years ago and was very much influenced by Medjugorje.

On October 8, 2000, Pope John Paul II, a well known believer in Medjugorje entrusted the new millennium to Our Lady. Because A Friend of Medjugorje had written about the upcoming Entrustment to take place, and with Caritas distributing leaflets and posters about the Entrustment, many arranged prayer groups, parishes and spontaneous gatherings across the world to prepare for and pray during the Entrustment. The Entrustment was to take place in St. Peter’s Square in Rome. People gathered here at Caritas, as well as at the Caritas Mission House in Medjugorje to pray in unison with those in Rome. Pope John Paul II had the statue of Our Lady of Fatima flown in for the occasion, much like the upcoming October 13 Consecration, which will also take place in front of the Fatima statue. The following is from the Caritas Words of the Harvesters Field Angel newsletter of October 2000:

“On the 8th, Holy Mass began at 10AM in Rome in St. Peter’s Square. There were 1,156 Bishops and 80 Cardinals present from every corner of the world. Not since the time of the Second Vatican Council has there been so vast a representation of a gathering of the world’s Bishops. The Universal Church was truly present in this historic meeting.

“Marija Lunetti, the visionary from Medjugorje traveled to Rome where she met with [Caritas’] founder on October 8th. A few days earlier, our founder was speaking with her and asked her to ask Our Lady if She would appear early on October 8th during the Consecration in St. Peter’s Square. Marija asked Our Lady during her regular apparition on October 7th. When Marija and our founder met on the morning of the 8th in Rome, he asked her what Our Lady said in response to the question. Marija said that Our Lady said,

“I will be present.”

“He then asked Marija what she thought Our Lady meant by saying,“I will be present.” Marija responded that she did not know if Our Lady would appear to her or if Our Lady meant She would be present just as if during an apparition but not seen by her.

“As it turned out, Our Lady did not appear early to Marija on October 8th, but all felt She was truly there especially when the Holy Father, evidently inspired by some sense of Our Lady’s presence during the whole event, stated during the Consecration ceremony, in almost the exact words that Our Lady said to Marija the day before, that Our Lady is present with us. At 12 o’clock noon, the Pope knelt before the statue of Our Lady of Fatima and entrusted the entire Church and the world to Our Lady. Those members of our community who were present in Rome along with Marija were near the altar where the Holy Father was celebrating the Mass and Consecration ceremony. In fact, as the Bishops and Cardinals processed in, no more than five feet away from our community members and Marija, some recognized Marija, and she happily jumped in the line, greeting them as they passed her. They were obviously delighted to see her present on this day. Our community members expressed to us that they felt they were experiencing something beyond historic, as Bishops walked by two by two taking over 30 minutes to process. Everyone present felt something immensely important was taking place…”

The Words of the Harvesters newsletter continues:

“…As for what happens next, it is difficult to imagine. We believe this moment of entrustment was the moment Our Lady was given the graces to crush the power of satan. This will lead to the moment of the triumph, the victory of Her Immaculate Heart. In time, we will see the physical manifestation appear of what has already taken place in the spiritual realm, a complete victory over all hearts who desire Jesus to rule as King…”

Interestingly, Our Lady of Medjugorje gave a message shortly after the October 8, 2000 Entrustment:

October 25, 2000

“…I desire to renew prayer with you and to call you to fast which I desire to offer to my Son Jesus for the coming of a new time - a time of spring. In this Jubilee year many hearts have opened to me and the Church is being renewed in the Spirit…”

A Friend of Medjugorje wrote shortly after the October 8 Entrustment, that as satan begins to lose his power, we will most likely see the throes of his aggression taking place. We have certainly seen the aggressiveness of evil that has escalated since the Entrustment of October 8, 2000, with 9/11 and other tragic world events inspired by evil. Seeing Our Lady’s of Medjugorje’s hand so strongly involved in the October 8 Entrustment, and with 13 years behind us since the last formal Act of Entrustment, with much anticipation and joy do we await this new Consecration of the World to take place in Rome at St. Peter’s in front of the statue of Our Lady of Fatima.

Please remember to pray for our country Zimbabwe...that Our Lady may instill the Spirit of Love in our newly chosen leaders that they lead with wisdom from Her Son Jesus and that they be blessed in their daily work and that He forgives them their sins too, and that the sins of our nation, including me may be forgiven, and that He may hear our prayers we bring through Her... Blessed are you Pope Francis for taking this abrupt move to consecrate the whole of mankind back to its Mother Of God for we desperately need Her Maternal protection granted by the ever willingness of His Son and Lord Jesus Christ... Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end. Pray that we get better employment, oh dear brothers and sisters in Christ so that we can take care of others too. Oh Madonna, hear my poor pleas as you receive our dirty and soiled hearts on Sunday, please do not refuse the efforts put by Papa Francis.

Indeed I will be very happy and in communion with our dear pope. MARY has been my source of consolation and how I wish the whole world would see Her greatness and favor. 13 years back I was still a teenager in primary six, but since then I have attended the Holy Mass for a greater part of my life and have said many Rosaries, thank you Mary. Dear Blessed Mother Mary: I will be celebrating October 13, 2013 as Pope Francis consecrates the world to you as Our Lady of Fatima. We thank you also for these 30 + years of appearing on earth to remind us that you love us and want to help us and that you also need our help. We love you so very much, dear Mother Mary. What would we have done all of these troublesome years without you? We wish to help you and join you in prayer and other works. We thank you also for Friend of Medjugorje and all that he has done to help us to know of your love for us. Thank you, dear mother, for loving us so much. I love you too. Shirley

After reading your writing, it reminds me of 13 years ago. It is the year 2000 when my heart opened completely to Our Lady. It is the year when my husband and I finally wed at the church. Thank you Blessed Mother for coming to my heart.
